How can you prevent child abuse in other families?
Be
supportive. Reach out a helping hand and offer to babysit or help with
some household chores. Give away used clothing and toys, etc. for another
family’s use if they are having financial difficulties. Help the
parents reach the needs of their children. Try to be especially helpful
if the family is undergoing some sort of crisis. Help keep parents from
being too stressed out during a crisis.
Reach out both to parents and children of families that may be dealing
with economic or personal stressors, etc. Interest your neighbors in
creating a sort of neighborhood support group to help with baby-sitting
and looking out for the kids. Support one another and get involved.
You can also volunteer time or money to community programs that support
families and children. Such programs include day care centers and parent
support groups. There are also many programs specific to the prevention
of child abuse that you can donate to.
You can also contact your state and federal representatives and let
them know the importance of programs and policies that support families
and prevent child abuse.
